  • Welcome to the third course in the Women's Shelter Program. We have spent a great deal of time looking at violence, effects on women, men and shelter workers however this course is a bit different. In the next nine weeks we are going to explore the intricate details of living and working in a shelter. In this lesson we will be sharpening our research skills, and re-connecting with other people in the field.
  • The realities and challenges of the day-to-day operations of women’s shelters are presented in this course. Learners will explore the various roles and responsibilities of crisis workers, including: crisis line duties, expectations of daily routines for staff and clients, child care and parenting issues, the challenges of shared living and single-shifting.

  • This course deals with others affected by family violence. Others affected can include relatives, friends and neighbours. Learners will develop their understanding of areas such as child abuse and neglect, children exposed to family violence, elder abuse, same sex relationships and abuse, and pet abuse.
